PAYE tax question

Options
Hi - a quick question. Apologies if this is a 'numpty' question.

On my payslip there are two gross figures:
1. Total gross Pay TD
2. Gross pay for tax

I am going to complete a return this year - which figure do I use for my Gross Pay???

TIA

Wait until you get your P60 and use the figures from that.

While I agree that would be sensible, in principle it should be the same as the Gross pay for tax figure on the last payslip of the year (assuming that it shows a year to date total as well as a pay period amount).

Hi - thanks for the replies - I agree that both gross figures *should* be the same, but aren't for some reason.

The P60 idea is a good one - just looked to see what happened in previous years - and the figure used on the P60 is the *Gross paid for Tax TD*.... Thank you!

As an example of how our payslips work, everything that goes through the gross side of the payslip ends up in 'total gross', while only the things that are taxable end up in 'taxable gross' (the clue is in the name :)).

In our case, things like a reimbursement for a business expense paid for out of your own pocket and claimed back from the company might appear in the total gross column, as they handle the payment of it through your payroll on payday, but don't have any associated tax or NI taken off within the deductions side of the payslip because they're not taxable. At the end of the year, I'm only concerned with whatever they said my cumulative taxable gross was up to the last payslip of the year (March), because that's what they'll be putting on my P60.
