Secure Savings Accounts

I have over £250K in two e-savings accounts. While I was away (and not keeping an eye on the accounts) one of them was attacked by a fraudster and over the course of just a few days money was repeatedly withdrawn.

Even though I had never made a withdrawal on the account in question none of the transactions was queried by the bank.

Although I am hopeful that I will be re-imbursed I have now lost faith in the banks ability to hold my finances securely.

Can anyone recommend a bank / savings account where I can earn a good rate of interest, and which offers a text alert every time a debit transaction hits the account.

  • Coutts, the Queen's private bank?

Alternatively you should consider dividing your money between several banks or building societies.

You can get text alerts to stop you going overdrawn, but the UK banking system has not yet evolved to the standards you require.

Cahoot. You can set (free) text alerts to notify you when a transaction takes place over a specified amount. If you specify 1p you would get an alert everytime
I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.

You shouldn't keep more than £30k-ish in any one account anyway, so you should have various accounts. With that amount I'm surprised you're not in more substantial investments rather than just having it sit there - you could get much better returns in unit trusts.
How did it happen anyway? It's more likely that I can't get into my online accounts, rather than other people getting in.

You can have an email alert as well/instead.
