Hello
My laptop runs on Windows Vista. I know that support ends for this on April 11th, & as my computer can run on Window7 I am going to get it upgraded (I am not technical enough to do it myself).
However, I haven’t got the time to take it to the shop at the moment & was wondering if my laptop will still work for a couple of weeks after April 11th.
Thanks

all support means is that the updates and patches will stop. You will still be able to use the laptop - just that you wont get any of the security updates etc.0

win10 is the current version of windows not win7. if you can run win7 you will almost certainly be able to run win10. i have upgraded a couple of netbooks running winxp to win10 with no problems"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0

Think my laptop is at least 5 yrs old & i did read in the specs somewhere it can run Windows 7. I just assumed it was too old for Windows 10. When i take it in i will ask.
Thanks0 -

just be aware that cost of W10 plus labour may not be cost-effective to buying another laptop...... different if you DIY, but as you stated you weren't happy with that.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Windows 10 is more demanding on computer spec. than Windows 7 so on an old machine Windows 7 might be preferable.0

good point. i wouldn't be happy paying for win10 when microsoft gave away so many 100 million copies for free just last year. don't know if still an opportunity to get free ease of access copy anywhere?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -
Windows 10 doesn't require any more resources than Window 7, so there shouldn't be any problems in that regard.
However I would think the OP's laptop is considerably older than 5 years, as Windows 7 was introduced in 2009.
I'm running Windows 10 (32bit) on a PC from 2005 that originally came with XP, and it runs just as smoothly as 7 did. Which is not as smoothly as XP did, but usable.
Whether the OP could run the 64bit version of Windows 10 would depend on the CPU.
But if the OP's laptop came out just before Windows 7 was released then it may well have a free upgrade to that, whereas upgrading to 10 would cost.
Whether whoever they are taking it to takes that into consideration in their price, is another matter0 -
Thanks for all the advice
I think my laptop might be over 5 years old after all but not sure.
t’s a Fujitsu Amilo what I like about it is that it has a large 18.4 Inch screen (more comfortable for my eyes) & current laptops seen to have much smaller screens.
I always put off upgrading anything for as long as possible as I think as long as it works that’s alright with me & I believe Windows 7 is supported until 2020 so that will buy me some more time.
Thanks0 -
Of course the OP could test the compatibilty of W10 by partitioning their drive and installing W10 on the second partition:cool:4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex .
