Protecting Savings during Divorce

I had exactly the same problem. Although it feels contrary to any saving advice you have ever had, you might as well spend that money.
I too am a saver. My ex husband was a spender. Even though we earned the same amount, I had paid off far more of the house and paid for more for the kids. On divorce I had saved money and he hadn't and it was counted as a joint asset.
There is no way of protecting it. You can try and prove that you paid off more during the marriage but you may not succeed. My suggestion would be to buy anything you may need - if you need a few new suits, get them now. If you were going to go on holiday, pay for it now etc. Otherwise chances are you will have to give up half of it.0 -

You say its amicable, which is Great
. I suggest you try and keep it that way. If you fall out over it, you could both end up wasting all your money on legal fees, on top of all the unpleasantness
