The MP for Newquay has slammed two private car parking enforcement companies which he said were treating motorists unfairly and damaging the reputation of the town.
During a debate in Parliament on Tuesday (March 22), Steve Double raised "serious concerns" concerning the practices of Parking Eye and Smart Parking in Newquay, as well as the relationship between private car parking companies and the DVLA.
Mr Double claimed the behaviour of the firms was damaging the reputation of Newquay.
Speaking in the debate, Mr Double said: "The way in which some parking firms operate in issuing penalties for spurious reasons is unfair to motorists and damaging the reputation of Newquay and many other areas.

Nothing will come of it I suppose, but nice to see the scammers named in public

Hopefully Double Trouble for the pair of them. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

But this takes it further but at a local level where the local press is involved. Read the OP's link to the press article.
Good thread, showing the mounting pressure being exerted on the parking skimdustry. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

thanks ....
ALL MP's should be aware of the scam operating in their area but there are many MP's who ignore complaints to them.
This is simply a government approved scam0 -
"Smart Parking is regulated by the British Parking Association and abides by its regulations at all times. Payment can be made at any time during the stay and can be topped up at the end if necessary. The vast majority of motorists understand that they need to pay and do so without any problems.
"We issue a parking charge notice to the tiny minority that choose not to pay. We operate a free and fair appeals procedure for anyone who feels they have received a charge in error. Motorists can also appeal to POPLA (Parking on Private Land Appeals), the independent ombudsman, if they are unhappy with our decision."

Got a reply.Dear Mr T
Thank you for your email, I appreciate you taking the time to get in touch.
Thank you also for the link, very interesting in deed. This issue has certainly received a lot of attention both locally and nationally and even one of the Parking companies has, finally, been in touch.
Kind regards

I wonder if a parking company will actually manage a car park instead of just milking it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0
