I need both building and contents....is it cheapest with both from same provider?
Do I just go for the cheapest....will I ever claim...
Or do I go for certain features that are a must....
Advice appreciated.

Sometimes better to have Buildings and Contents together, as it makes claims easier, even if not cheapest way. I.e if you had a fire or burglary, you are likely to have a claim for Buildings and Contents.
Go for Buildings and Contents including Accidental Damage cover. Make sure the excess is a small as possible, if your monthly budgeting is going to be tight. If you need to claim, if you don't have the excess money spare, then it can make it difficult.
Don't go with cheapest companies, as they are more likely to have poor customer services and outsourced claim services. Best to have a company, you know you can easily contact with a decent claims service. Think about using local brokers, as they will have many options.
If you are not insuring a new build property, make sure you have read the house survey report fully for any issues. The Insurers will ask questions about the property. Buildings Insurance is from exchange of contracts and Contents from date you move in.The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Just because you have had a bad experience with Halifax, doesn't mean everyone will. It is the same with all insurers, some people have good experiences, and some have bad. It's the world we live in.0 -
