Sports Direct - sale stickered, but charged full price

Has anyone else had this, and been successful in getting £ back?

I bought two tops from Sports Direct on the eBay shop for 29.99 each, as listed on the eBay page. They arrived stickered 'sale £15'. Obviously not pleased, I emailed and said would they refund the difference, or did they want me to return them, and then buy them back at the sales price. They fobbed me off with something along the lines of 'as I'm sure you're aware we may charge different prices..'. Surely they can't make me pay double for sales goods, even if I was not aware of that when I placed the order?

If you can just return them.

    Good old Mike Ashley

Not everything about Sports Direct is bad (the media were quite harsh by singling out this company above others!) but this is one occasion where they seem to have dropped the ball. Not good leaving a sale sticker on the merchandise!

BUT.... you were quoted a price, you accepted the price and the contract formed. The item arrived as described, fit for purpose and was not faulty. You can keep it or cancel it and get a refund (minus returns costs usually). End of story.

Sports Direct will give you the absolute minimum in terms of customer service and this scenario is one reason why they are able to sell sporting goods for cheaper in general. That means it is very unlikely that you will get anything above your normal cancellation rights, as evidenced by their response.

I know it's not original but would you have started a similar thread if the two tops had arrived at your house and had stickers on them for £49.99 each.
Would you now be asking how to pay the extra £40 to Sports Direct?

Ignore the stickered price on the goods you received. This may be an old price that might have only been offered in store for a limited time and they simply forgot (or couldn't be bothered) to remove it.

They offered them for sale at £29.99 and you accepted the price and bought. Other than the sale price tag it's not any different than buying tins of beans for 60p today that were 30p when on offer two weeks ago. As there is no 'goodwill gesture' from SD return them for a refund.

It's always good when companies stick to their guns and don't bend over for unreasonable customers.

They have called your bluff and refused to refund you the difference so you only option is to return them and buy them at the lower price if that's possible.

They didn't make you do anything. They simply listed goods for sale at a certain price and left it up to potential customers to decide whether or not they wished to pay the price being asked.
