Turned down by First Direct?

So I had been with FD for some 5 years, I also have a credit card with them and savings account, during that time I had a £500 overdraft that was never touched, I never had any form of charges etc.

I decided to switch to TSB a few weeks back to get the switching bonus, so I got the bonus and want back to FD as their customer service is so much better than TSB, went though an application over the phone with them just now and got turned down.

Any ideas why this would be? 5 years ago when I took out my original account my credit rating was crap, its now classed as Very Good and I get turned down.

Why did you switch your main account just to get a switching bonus?

As for TSB never had an issues - but I only use(d) it for debit card cashback/savings. If you want to do things by phone all the time I agree FD are better - but how often is that?

As for not being accepted back - you just switched from them so its a bit soon perhaps? They are known to be fussy.

maybe it's their way of giving you the finger for switching away from them in the 1st place
  • Maybe a First Direct don't consider your credit rating "Very Good".

Well it's good enough for them to constantly raise my credit card limit even though I rarely use it.

According to Experian my credit score is 974 out of 1000 I think it is and it's them who say it's very good not me, FD also tell me to refer to Experian.

So the mind boggles really. I would love to take this further if I could?

Interesting. The "once switched away and upset them" theory holds water perhaps. Or is your old current account still open?

Well I'm a shoe size 11 at some shops. At others I'm a size 12. I share that as it's about as useful as the random number generator you refer to.
FD also tell me to refer to Experian.
That would be a fob off as staff won't know the exact reason.

Appeal to FD is all you can do. The FOS can't compel a provider to give you a financial product if they don't want to.

It would seem you are the quintessential non profitable customer.

I didn't think that was held against you? Any time I did use the credit card its for things like online groceries, the balance is then cleared in full next pay day.

My FD account got closed when I switched to TSB, The TSB account is open but as I said I am looking to switch it back to FD.

Yes I have either !!!!ed them off I reckon or whoever put my application through put something through wrong,

If I look at my FD credit card, I started of with a limit of £500, its now got up to £5000, this for someone with bad credit? I think not.

I have been a customer of FD for about 20 years. On and off. What I would say is that they can be as fussy as hell and remember everything!! I wouldn't be surprised if they are just being difficult. Give it three months or more, I did and got an account again after switching my long standing account away.
