Mouth licking

Options
I have recently got myself a border collie pup, about 8 months old and he gets on well with most dogs but with the old lady next door (she is about 10) he constantly licks her mouth. She doesn't seem to mind this in fact if I am brushing her back at the same time, she almost seems to be in raptures.

Any ideas as to why he does this with her?

I'm sure I read somewhere that dogs lick their mums mouths for food which is why they also lick their owners mouths, I guess this is what your young pup is doing and I guess that the older dog is loving the youngster bringing out her maternal instincts.

I had a feeling that was the reason but as he only does it with the one dog I was not sure :o

The only one who hasn't been spayed? Or has had a litter before?

I am, of course, assuming that by Old Lady, you mean an aged female dog....

She has been spayed and has never had a litter to my knowledge although she was a stray on the streets in Romania in the early years of her life.

I'd be surprised if she hasn't pupped, then. I'd let them get on with it as they're both happy.

I thought your dog was licking your elderly neighbor's mouth and she didn't mind it!
