Cancelling tax credits

After years of working part time and having to have my earnings topped up I've finally got a full time job and start on 10th April.
I have two kids and my full time job means I'll be earning the same (slightly more) money per month as I currently get working part time and calming tax credits however I do not wish to claim these anymore. How can I cancel. Someone told me I can't because I'd still be entitled to them due to my yearly salary being below the threshold but simple fact is I don't want or need them. That was the whole point of me going into full time work. Now my kids are older it's easier to work more hours. Please help

Great to know thanks.
Can I just call up and say "I'd like to cancel my claim" or do I have to tell them why I'm cancelling?
Also will I still be sent the renewal pack in May/June time? Or will it just be a letter confirming info and that I've cancelled?
Sorry for all questions just want to make sure I'm doing it right0 -
You cannot cancel a claim part way through the year
Your entitlement will be calculated on your total salary for the year ended 5 April so you need to call them and advise your new total income from 6April 2016 to 5 April 2017.
Depending on the difference between the figure in your current claim and the new income there may be an overpayment.
You should also give them an estimate of your total income for 2017/18.
You will receive a renewal form in May or June to finalise your claim for 2016/170 -
It is possible to withdraw a claim. However it does depend on the status of the claim and the time of year as to when they can withdraw. It cannot be withdrawn for the tax year if already renewed. Call them and they will confirm what needs to be done and when.0
