Sainsburys Amex Card

I've just applied and been accepted for the above card. I wanted it as if I spend £2000 in the first 3 months I get £200 worth of nectar points and the card is free for the first year. We're about to move and are going to buy a new sofa and bed - all good so far.

Unfortunately, I've only just realised not everywhere takes American Express!

I think I read somewhere that I could buy gift cards for the shop I want (John Lewis) and get the spends and therefore points that way. Is this correct? I can't find it anywhere now and beginning to think I imagined it :rotfl:

If not, is there any other way I can use the card to get the furniture I want and still get the points?

Thanks

most places take Amex - there are still a few notable exceptions though.
John Lewis take Amex so no need to mess about with vouchers for them.
    the major supermarkets take amex.

  • John Lewis accepts Amex so I don't see a problem here.

I use my Amex almost exclusively, it's rare these days to find a shop that doesn't take it and I have to revert to my backup Visa...
  • Thank you all very much, I think I must have been looking at old information!

As a rule of thumb, if it's a large chain and it's not a discount brand, expect them to take Amex.

False positives - B&Q, Toys R Us and Paperchase - I would expect all these 3 to accept it, but they don't.

False negatives - Asda, Iceland, Toolstation and Wilko all accept it even though it would be entirely reasonable to my mind if they didn't.

No harm asking, or even just sticking your card in and trying - I've been to a few places which don't indicate acceptance where the transaction goes through just fine. One garden centre even prints on the receipt "Card Payment (exc Amex)" despite the fact I used an Amex.

Where did you find a link for the sign up double points promotion - was it on the nectar website (and thus customer specific)?
    I think....

I use Amex exclusively without any problems. But on a recent safari into the Northamptonshire hinterland I was shocked to learn that Farmfoods don't accept it. Although I had several backups I left my shopping in the trolley and went to Iceland.

It was an email offer via the nectar site. I don't know if it was customer specific, may be worth having a look!

Their loyalty partner, Nectar, does though. It's pretty obvious that's what the OP has.
