Moving house question

We are moving house in a couple of months into a new build. Just wondered if I cancel my existing provider & start afresh or talk to them about moving it across. Wasn't sure how it works with new builds. Will they already have their own supplier? Thanks.

On the day you move from your present home, give your energy supplier the meter readings and the new address they should send the Final Bill to

The builder of the new home will already have appointed an energy supplier, and you must register your occupation and meter readings with that supplier on the day you move in - It's possible that it's the same supplier for both houses, but you must still follow the above procedures.

Be aware the current supplier to the new house will automatically put you on their expensive 'Standard Variable Tariff'' as soon as you register with them, so either speak to them to opt for one of their other tariffs, or Switch to another supplier as soon as you get the encumbant suppliers Welcome Letter

Also, in the new build - you must check that your meter relates to your house. If the meter is in or on the house this is easy.

    But!

You then must check that your meter is the one your supplier has registered on their systems and on your bills. The meter referance numbers should match.

Many times there is no co-ordinatation between builder and supplier. The supplier go off the plot numbers which may be differance fromt he house number.

So, always ensure the meters reference numbers match.
