British Gas new boiler !

I just wanted to get some information on this British Gas New Boiler quote. At present I have a system boiler with a vented cylinder and a cold water tank at the loft.

Its a 4 bed/2 bath property and looks like combi is not the way to go. The best option seem like unvented cylinder and that would involve replacing existing pipes (may be) and boiler( if that cannot cope with a unvented system)

However, the question is how good are British Gas and how competitive are their quotes and experiences if people could share any please ?

We had a good install with BG, we paid around £2700ish (not sure exact) for a brand new combi bolier, it took 2 days to fully install, we put it on pay monthly as well.

It was decent as it was a week from order to installation with them.

and how competitive are their quotes
common view is not very !!
You might do better referring to the
"In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving" section of this forum - boiler quote come up a lot there
for comparison, had a new boiler fitted last year in 4 bed 2 bath, condensing boiler + new long 22mm pipe for gas for £2200 in South East
    - using existing vented cylinder and a cold water tank in the loft.

    Hmmm... BG....

BG HomeCare engineer told me my boiler was knackered just a few days before Christmas.

The BG salesman quoted me £5.7k for a new one (local firm quoted £3.8k for the same thing).

What the BG HomeCare engineer said to me didn't seem to make sense. So I looked on the internet, diagnosed the problem as an air-lock in a pipe and fixed it myself.

The old boiler is now fine.

    Use common sense:

get a BG quote, then get 3 more quotes from localindependant gas engineers.

Try then Trading Standard 'buy with confidence' scheme for your council.

Get advice fro each about most appropriate system but end up comparing like for like (same boiler, flush, pipes etc)

I had 3 quotes 2 from local companies and 1 from British Gas and there was a vast difference in price.

I went with a small independant, the price couldnt be beaten.
