Has anyone had dealings with a company called Saint Solar?

We already have solar panels but this new system they are trying to sell us uses air to produce heat for the radiators.

The salesman says we will be paid to use it (which all sounds very dodgy to me) and that the cost of buying the gear and paying for installation will be recouped in a few years.

I never trust anything that sounds too good, so I need someone to tell me if my scepticism is justified :)

sounds like they are trying to flog you an Air Source Heat Pump. Nothing wrong with them in the right circumstances, but steer clear if you've got gas central heating as the cost benefit would be very low compared to the cost of gas.

The fact that you've got solar isn't much help as the ASHP uses electricity and you don't generate much of it when the the heat pump is working hardest - ie in the winter.

They also don't easiy replace a boiler because the heating system it'self really needs upgrading to larger radiators to offset the much lower water flow temperatures than an ASHP runs at.

I've got an ASHP and I'm extremely happy with it but that's because mine was installed as part of a completely new heating system and because we don't have mains gas. If we had mains gas then it wouldn't have got a look in.

    Thank you for your reply.

We currently have oil central heating so we'll look into the advantages of one against the other. Just trying to leave a smaller footprint on the world really.

    Thanks again:beer:

As I said, be careful with just thinking you can swap out the boiler with a heat-pump.

Your radiators will probably have been sized for flow temperatures around 70C whereas the heat pump should be run at around 35C so the rads will nee to be doubled.

You'll also find that it takes 2-3 times as long to heat the place so ASHP work best when they are running most of the time - they do not work like a conventional boiler which heat the place up rapidly.

Get it wrong and they'll cost lots to run on full price leccy (they are no good on E7) and you'll still be cold - so find out everything you can, do not listen to silver tongued salemen (or women)

I've recently had dealings with Saint Solar I signed up for Solar PV as well as the Air Source Heat Pump. The systems themselves are good quality and the engineers that did the installation were professional.
Watch out for sales reps telling you you will have no more bills and that "the system pays for itself". You will still have a bill and the systems will not pay for themselves in a hurry. The pay off for these systems is during the summer summer months.
  • OTG2017 I would be extremely interested in talking to you as I too am in dispute with Saint Solar after mis-selling and false promises. I have read your blog with interest and appear to be in the same boat.

In relation to the OP you were very wise to steer clear.
