We strapped the cage on to the back seat once, but tht dislodged the base and the hamster escaped! He made a nice nest in the car seat.Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0

My hammys (we got a thrid yesterday but he had an injury pets at home didn't notice..hes currently refunded and having antibiotics there...i hope they ring us back and sell him back to us!) anyway, yeh our 2 hammys travel long journeys all the time to and from uni. Just mover everything to the lowest level (or food will go everywhere!) and put on back seat with seat belt around bottom base and strap across. we leave water bottles in and they seem find, just keep lookin in on them..mine sleep the whole way and seem to like the soft noise of the car engine

Need a new start..wheres good to live in the UK?!0 -
I used to drive all over the UK for work and inherited a hammy by accident, hammy happilly travelled all over the UK for about 3 years - he stayed in hotels most nights and I never had a problem!
Some of the hotels I stayed in regularly would produce hamster treats out from under the reception desk or would send them up with the bell boy. - in fact the hammy was better known than I was! I had a nice big sign for his cage asking chambermaids not too feed him or spray chemicals around him - he lived to a ripe old age and seemed to enjoy the travelling.

My Hamster has travelled many times on long journeys in the car and he's fine with it, i usually give my hamster an empty toilet roll tube to play with during long journeys, he chews it up for a very long time keeping him occupied, and when he finishes chewing tubes he just sleeps, the travelling doesent seem to bother him at all.0

Hi,
My daughter has a dwarf hamster whose behavour has suddenly changed. She has gone from a quite placid animal into one that is constantly biting, climbing the bars of her cage and swinging from them. It appears she is biting the bars constantly now as she has rubbed the fur from her nose. She is eating ok still but we are getting worried as my daughter no longer wants to handle her because of the biting.
Any ideas anyone?0 -
She's bored! From what I can remember from keeping Russian dwarf hammies (years ago) they are social animals & don't take to being kept on their own... unlike the big Syrian/Golden Hamster which does live on it's own!Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

The only things I can think of are, is the cage big enough? I have only owned syrians in the past and now have a glass tank which is bigger and hammie can't chew the bars anymore
Or would another hamster as a playmate help? I have heard that dwarf hamsters can live in pairs.
I'm sure someone will be along soon who has more expert advice, but the above is something to think about.
chocdonuty:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly0
