After nearly 4 years, still on the same salary band...

madfrench, I was thinking of you asking for a payrise as opposed to an actual promotion in job title unless your job title offers a fixed pay rate...you may have more luck in that.
People who get internally promoted rather than taken in from outside any business usually find they are treated less favourably financially unfortunately. Businesses are sneaky and prefer to get their skills and labour on the cheap.
Kudos to you for being honest with your CV, most people add at least 10% BS to theirs. Like you, I can't be bothered lying about it, I'd rather not have the job. But you were in with a chance at that interview - so they valued what you'd done sufficiently to interview you.
And I can cap your tale of people being brought back in 5 years later - how about an employer who has to approach people two weeks after they've made them redundant (with a pay off!) asking them to come back? Superb planning and management there, eh???0 -
CFC, payrises only happen after the annual appraisal held in march Arpil and start being paid in July. No exception to the rule.
I think their human resources mgmt is non existent: let's rob people out of our competitors for huge prices (even double the salary of the current employee doing the same job) while we could actually develop and train people internally. Surely, the second option will pay off better in the longer term! no?"Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

I wouldnt want to be your colleague or manager.
Accept your current role or move on but the company have already imo given you massive opportunities considering you had no qualifications or experience and you dont seem to get this
You cant force promotion and even a hint of what I saw in your post in a formal appraisal will damage you
Theres being ambitous and enthusiastic and then theres being arrogant, you fall into the latter in this post
a touch harsh methinks..... we all sometimes fall under the idea that we may be better than we are....... but if someone is asking for advice, comments like yours dont help.
madfrenchgirl:- whilst the last comments werent necessarily needed, others have stated useful remoarks, relating to pushing yourself more to look else where. some companies have a philosophy of refusing to give anything - be it payrise/promotion . as for head hunting, if they can take someone on with the required skill set for more money, they should reap the benefits without the cost of training and the wait while the person trains....
could you not ask for training courses?
take some courses at evening college?smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Thx Robnye for putting him back into perspective... As I said at the beginning of the thread, I wanted to check if this was general practice, and i pointed out that I did not want to push any further with my new group and get categorised as a tantrum baby.
I do understand that waiting for people to develop skills can be costly hence why headhunting, but there is always a balance between what the person truly costs you while developping and what they financially cost you in terms of salary. I was fine being paid the same during my first year as I was being given a chance and there was a risk involved into letting me do this. I went through the company's tables and definitions of associate pro, professional and senior professional with a senior exec on the account who explained to me that I was truly a professional and not an AP anymore.
I have asked for training courses and got to do an online course on software testing, I have booked the exam for it. As I mentioned before, I am on less than 20k with a mortgage to pay in the South East: I cannot afford to go to night school.
OK I am off. I will be bumping this thread back when I either get promoted or get a new job.
Thanks for all the advice and support and sharing your current nightmares. Best of luck to everyone!"Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye
