PPI Help

Options
Hi,

Grateful for advice on how to check on PPI from a finance deal I took out around 1996 - can't remember the company - the loan was taken to buy a TV and the deal was through the store I bought it from. I am pretty certain that I was told I had to take PPI to get the loan. I changed banks about two years after taking out that loan in 1998..by which stage I think (but not sure) the loan was paid off, so I am not sure how to approach this to find out. Grateful for some advice.

Secondly, and more generally, any loans I have taken out have never been via my bank. I have had a number of loans via credit cards and companies such as Northern Rock. What is the best way for me to find out if I have ever taken out PPI on ANY loans that I've taken out...especially if I can't remember/don't have records for them?

Thanks,

Conor

The finance deal for the TV will almost certainly be time barred and it's pre-regulation if the store sold the policy rather than the lender

Loans / cards you need to ring them up and ask, worst case spend £10 on a DSAR (request for all your data that they still hold) and see if anything is left. This information is not in the public domain, your last 6 years will be on your credit record (check for free at Noddle/ClearScore)

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Thanks Nasqueron. Pretty certain I wasn't paying PPI on any of the loans/cards I have had in the last 6+ years but just wasnt sure if there was any in the last decade.

Looks like nothing for me to do!

    Cheers.
