So there i was thinking i was debt free about to take on a mortgage...

So when me and my partner split up in 2011 we had an agreement in place he would pay back my career development loan , not a formal one , which naive as i was i believe he did lo and behold i get a letter through saying that there was some miscalculation and the loan has been decreased by 700.00 and that the outstanding amount i owe is 3500 ! The guys now moved to australia god knows where.

Im pretty shocked tbh and never picked up on it due to it not ahowing on my credit report only showing as settled in 2012.

I am willing to pay off the loan obviously it is my debt but how do i go about it ? Contact the bank..i can only pay off so much a month etc

Any advice would be much apprecited

Yes - come to an arrangement with them and get it cleared as soon as you can.

If the account is in arrears, and you can't make contractual payment, it will be an arrangement to pay.

So the sooner cleared, the better, as it won't look good to prospective lenders.
  • Thank you - it dsnt show to have ever been on arrears ...just green marks then in 2012 may it shows with an S and account closed...?
  • If the account is showing as settled on your credit file then its settled?

Maybe your ex did make the payments and they have made a mistake? Id be questioning them further to be honest and asking them to prove that the account is indeed in arrears etc etc

Yes, I would be asking that to clarify - expalin that you understand that the deabnt was cleared in 2012, that it has been showing as settled on your credit report sincethat date, and can they please provide a breakdown on the payments received, how they have caluclated the figures and why they have waited 5 years to conact you if they believe that there is any debt remaining.
All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)
