Any sort of help with travel costs?

I'm in London, and although students get 30% off travel, it still costs me £27.86 a week after this 30% has been taken off (zone 1-5 travelcard usually costs £39.80)
Is there any sort of grant or funding to help with travel costs?

If you do not have enough money to live on, then you can apply to the Access to Learning Fund at your university for help.Gone ... or have I?0

or use that money to buy a nice secondhand bike...0

I can't take a bike, it's over 2 hours away by tube, not sure how many miles it is, but cetainly too far to take a bike, as much as I'd like to.0

Aah but travelling by tube is often longer than walking!
I hear that Oyster card travel is now cheaper as a single bus fare has been reduced to 90p. Although you could try for some income support (don't know how successful you'll be) because I saw an ad on a bus stop on the Wandsworth Road the other day advertising free oyster cards for those on income support.0 -
A full time student will not be eligible for income support, unless they have dependents or a disability.Gone ... or have I?0

There's no standalone travel help as such, costs such as travel, food, rent etc are expected to come from your maintenance loan (and grant if you were eligible for that).
However, if you're struggling, you can apply to the Access to Learning Fund (formerly the Hardship Fund) as another poster said. You'd have to supply details of incomings and outgoings and any evidence to support it (bank statements, bills, council tax notice, tenancy agreement, loan notification letter, anything like that). You then may be awarded some extra cash to help you out.0 -
Nope, it sucks! And I'm sorry to the person who suggested a bike - you try getting to uni with folders & a laptop. Then not wanting to smell the lecture theatre out with sweat! Let alone trying not to die on London roads.
I have a student oyster so buy the 30% off bus pass a week.0
