1st Central Car Insurance Cancelation Cost Complaint Process

I have been with 1st Central since 2013 and have gone with the auto-renewals for convenience without being stung.

But looking at my bank statement on-line the other day I noted the direct debit had increased by 300% from £36 per month to £109 per month.

Worse still the cancellation costs are very significant:

£50 non refundable arrangement fee
£90 non refundable anciliaries (insurance add-ons that I cant remember)
£50 cancellation fee

I do get a small pro-rata refund of £45 but the cancellation would still cost me approx £150.

Alas I just missed the cooling off period free cancellation by 3 days - having been insured for 17 days.

I have raised a complaint and not paid the above - was this a good move? Or should I just suck this one up and put it down to experience?

Note, on the on-line portal my status is "unsigned Credit Agreement" so I have not agreed to the terms and conditions of the Credit Agreement.

Cheers,

Simon

They will have sent you a renewal letter/email a few weeks before the policy renewed stating the increased charges plus they have given you a futher 14 days after it renewed to cancel for "free". You had plenty of time to cancel so you have little basis for a complaint.
Also considering this is a renewal and not a new policy you have already agreed to the terms and conditions and you dont need to agree to new ones.

Stopping the payment risks further charges in your T+C. Always check the renewal prices and never auto renew for anything.
