We have an up and over metal garage door. The white paint is starting to flake so I need to rub it down and repaint. What type of paint do I need and is an undercoat advisable. we are going to paint it the same colour. Any advise will appreciated.

You need to consider what the door is made of before you choose what to paint & prepare it with.
Many early ( Henderson ?? ) up & over doors were galvanised metal.

All I have done with mine is to thoroughly rub down, wash and dry the door, then apply exterior gloss paint. It lasts for a number of years.0

That's what we do as well.0 -
If it's galvanised and the metal is exposed spot priming it would be an advantage. Zinc phosphate primer is best for this.
If it's just flaked and undercoat is visible a light wet and dry sanding would be advised (all over) the garage door then either undercoat then 1 to 2 coats of standard gloss paint would give the best result.0 -
I've used both these in the past and both did a good job:

Rub down first (wire brush? electric sander?). If you expose bare metal, use a metal primer, if you just expose an undercoat, just paint on top.0
