Email Spam Warning - Betfair

Hello everyone,
I cannot provide proof, so you'll have to use your own judgement - on my word as a savvy and careful internet user. After making a Betfair account to bet on an England game (I thought it was a well known company and trustworthy), I began receiving spam emails like a plague.
It went from 1-5 a week that were caught in the filter, to 30-50 daily emails that Microsoft's spam filter could not recognise. Some of them are pretty convincing (e.g. Contact requests from Google or Facebook, despite this email not being used for those companies) while others requesting bank details for Tax returns are more obviously spam. They're mostly but not all US based.
I am convinced it was Betfair as it was the only new site or registration I had done for a long time and the emails started a couple of days after. I never click unknown links and can spot phishing emails at fifty paces.
Even with well known betting companies, be sure to create a new email alias! My spam filter is on maximum but it blocks everything and Microsoft to explain the filters not helping. This email address has been ruined and is completely unusable now!

Another possibility....
You have some sort of keylogger virus on your computer and it has taken your email address from when you typed it into Betfair's web form..
That would, of course, raise the possibility that someone out there has your bank account details too...
"But I have a virus checker and there is nothing wrong" I hear you say. Well, virus checkers are not always capable of picking them up0
