Hi, I'm new to satnavs, having always used my phone up til now. I expected to be able to just put in a postcode but it doesn't recognise them. Any idea why?
It's a Garmin Drive 50 LM

Is the sat nav brand new. Is the postcode you are using new. You may need the software updating to get any new ones. Is the postcode of a remote area?

They can be pernickety if you don't put the 'space' in eg W1 1AA not W11AA.

    would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

There's definitely no 'a' in 'definitely'.

WE had this problem with the same model. Do not put the post code in the box on the top of the screen, instead tap the "where to" box and then put the post code in the post code box, leave the other boxes empty and press go. This works every time for us.
  • Hi. I hope this simple fix might help anyone out there who has the post code problem. My daughter was moving up to Scotland and had only used the sat navin London. I spent an hour on the phone to Garmin ref the sat nav not accepting Scottish [ or welsh post codes. ] then the penny dropped.
Tap on where to. if the country name above the post code box says England you need to tap change country and start typing the United Kingdom. and accept. Like magic all UK postcodes now found.
I hope this might help other users with the same problem. Mike.

Just use Google Maps on a smartphone instead. It's updated more frequently.

Yeah, with realtime traffic information, diversion routes, accurate ETAs, satellite imagery, etc.

We have this satnav. As M...46 says do not put post codes in the box on the top right of the screen, this is for town names.
Press where to and enter the post code in the box, that will get you there.
