building regs changes?

Hi,
If a loft was converted and has building regs approval from 2005, is it likely that these would meet current standards-eg floor joists etc?
We have a badly designed loft conversion & have planning to change it with a side & rear dormer, but the architect has put on building regs drawings that floor joists need to be replaced. We were told this was all done when the existing conversion was done, and I have the completion of works building regs certificate.
I'm hoping if we don't have to do this then it should save some money? :beer:
