Parking fine in a disabled bay at railway station

Hi all, please help!!
I paid for parking at my local train station via the Indigo app, as I always do, before leaving home. When I arrived At said train station there were no available spaces, after driving round the car park twice. I had to catch a train for a meeting so I took the decision to park in a disabled bay (I am not a blue badge holder). While I felt guilty of this I saw no sign advising that it was an 'offence' and so I made my way into the station.
When returning to my car I found a 'Penalty Notice' stuck to my car. Inside the fine states a breach of byelaw 14, something i had never heard of before. After checking information at the pay station behind the space and facing away from the car, I find a small reference to receiving a fine for parking in a disabled space without a blue badge. I had not had cause to go to the pay station as I had pre-paid online, and in the absence of any other signage thought my action was maybe a bit rude but one that I would not receive a fine for.
I wish to appeal this on the basis of a lack of signage but wondered if there was any advice beforehand. It seems the ticket was issued by Indigo as they are who I have to appeal to. It's £100 reduced to 60 if I pay in 14 days.
Any help gratefully appreciated!

Do you ever wonder why parking companies are employed to penalise petty parking infringements..........? Did you consider the needs of a disabled motorist who also needed to catch a train, may be for visit to a specialist hospital for treatment, only to find the disabled space taken by an able bodied motorist just because he had 'a meeting' to attend? Hardly 'a bit rude'!
You need to read the NEWBIES FAQ sticky which will give you all you need to wriggle your way out of paying this. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

I wonder how much this offence would attract in a Council car park? If less than £100 fight it, if more pay up.

Are you seriously asking us to believe you though it just "rude" to park in a disabled bay and that's all?
Sorry I can't believe anyone needs to search for instructions to tell them what these bays are for, or what the consequences might be.
Yes you probably can fight this and you have work to do, so research this forum.0 -
Actually I very much did consider the needs of other motorists. The disabled bay I parked in was a set of two at the rear of the car park by an entrance to a supermarket that is next to the station, not by the entrance to the train station itself. I had no intention of avoiding paying for parking or doing the wrong thing, as I said I pre paid for my parking.
And how do you know that my meeting wasn't at a specialist hospital that I'd been waiting 6 months for to find out some life changing medical news of my own following a precious operation that has not yet rendered me disabled but could easily do so if the news I'm on my way to get wasn't as hoped? Or to get to a hospice to see a relative with hours to live? And that I just didn't want to put those kind of details on a public forum?
I fully appreciate that parking in a disabled bay without a blue badge is inconsiderate, but you might want to think about what might be going on in someone's life before being so judgemental.
The point here is a question on a point of law, not one of morality.0 -
The blue badge scheme does not apply on private land.
You parked in a disabled bay when you should not have done so, and now you are trying to justify your actions. That is not the best way to get help from people who give their time and expertise for free.
Nobody here likes the way most private parking companies behave, but you are alienating the very people you have asked to help. Some may now not even try to help you as a result of your last post.
Everything you need to know is in the Sticky thread for NEWBIES, so you should start reading that first. Your behaviour from now on will determine how, or if, you get further help.

As already said, consider your parking conduct not supported at all - BUT your appeal will win because we hate this industry and their greed. So we support you wholehearrtedly against them.
When you win by using the templates in the NEWBIES thread (and you will win at POPLA and will pay Indigo nowt), maybe a small donation to a disability charity will set it all straight.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
