Selling car

Just had a young chap round to see my Wagon R Suzuki. First to show an interest in two weeks. "It's for my uncle, he's looking at your car now".
Well, dilemma all round, in his late 70's , dribbling, incoherent, Alzheimer's or some similar. The car suits, driving position and so on. He fell over on getting out of the car, nephew picked him up and very slowly they walked back to the nephews car.
Then the young man came in to pay and I said NO.
It was a cash deal, and from what I could see, the old chap was going to drive the car back.
Assuming that he had insurance and a licence..would I be in
order to sell it to him. What does the team think. Deal pending.Gonna talk to his wife tonight. What's the law.??

I suppose the law would say that if the old gent has a valid licence and his doctor is happy for him to drive and he has an insurance cover note, then he can drive it away. Sounds a bit terrifying though.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

Gonna sell to his wife, and she or nephew or nephews wife is going to drive it home.
Apparently she does most of the driving anyway.
  • Well who ever you're selling it to, when you fill out the Reg dog. Make sure you ask for his driving licence number (even though its an optional box to fill in).

Just keeps you covered I suppose...

I waould also add that on the reciept you also note the time and date, and cancel your insurance over the phone that minute.

Therefore - any damage casued by accident or illegal driving will not be down to you. The insurance company logs cancellations to the second and most record calls, so its worth ensuring they do this.

Thank you all good advice, especially time and date.
Parkinson's I think, his wife is adamant he is OK but selling to her now, her details etc. Nephew seems sensible.
Last car, first was in 1957 a Morris Minor.
Bunny points tho for reduced carbon footprint.

My grandad had Parkinsons. His driving was terrible for the couple of years prior to him really going down hill and being diagnosed. Sadly, he felt he was forced to drive as my gran is severley disabled and he was too proud to ask any of us. Took a couple of accidents, thankfully minor, to get him to finally give up. What non of us could believe is that his GP hadn't notified Swansea.
