throwing the BM across the kitchen.
Ok last night i was making dough in the Bm was making 2 batches so that i could freeze some. Never had a problem before and far prefer the the free form cooked in the oven kids love it for school.
Well both lots i made last night did not rise and were a sticky mess in the bottom of the pan. The 1st lot did not cook and i threw away the 2nd lot i made in to 2 smaller ones and cooked were ok but small and a bit heavy but were ok enough to give for lunches today.
Just done another lot this morning and the same thing happened again. whats going on?????
its the same way i always make it the only difference i can think of is that i am using a tin of allinson dried active yeast, i have used it before and no probs its sealed and store in a cupboard. Was using packets of asda yeast.
please someone tell me i have followed the recipe just like normal for the bread roll dough in the MR fastbake leaflet that come with the BM.
I am about ready to through the blooming thing across the kitchen, what is it with this week that everything has to go to waste, cat & chicken now bread grrr.

sounds like the yeast has become old.Maybe a temperature change affected it. Try with new yeast.0

My mum used this yeast on Monday and it too didn't rise - We had people for dinner (she wasn't making bread but something for another recipe)
Mum swears by fresh yeast, but I couldn't be bothered to drive to ASDA to get this!
They will give you some free at any ASDA store - maybe try this?0 -
Hi there Angela
I have had the same problem since we moved to Germany.. i thought it was the change in flour... so got some Tesco flour from the naffi... still the same problem..3 lots in the end - when it was mixing it looked fine and then if you didn't get it out as soon as it was done (i always bake in the oven too) it would go all runny!! in the end i changed my yeast and had no more problems. Although i have now gone back to making bread by hand with fresh yeast now... cheaper and quicker for me...and better results
Ps....wanna be a mum... next time you go to Asda get your fresh yeast, weigh it into the portions you use it in and freeze it....-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Do you need to get the yeast going first?
I've used the sachets and chucked them in with no problem but then I started using a tin of yeast from a local health food shop. (cheaper!)
I had flat unrisen loaves, so I woked out I needed to get the yeast active before I started so I put the the yeast in the water (warm) and some of the sugar and leave for about 10 mins till it's frothy, then tip into the breadmaker with the dry ingrediant and off you go.
No problems since but you can't use the timer.0 -
sounds like the yeast then
the pot says it once open use within 2 months and it only be open maybe 2-3 weeks though it does say not for use in BM.
Maybe thats why thengot no yeast in the house now will have to go back to asda to get some as there was 50p for 8 sachets lets hope they have some and not put the price up.

oh what a great idea did not think of that i have been i dont mind doing that as i need to cook the dough afterwards.
will give that a go when i get back from work later might save me from having to go to shops before next week and i can just pick up a packet of 8 for emergency's and weekends when i like to have it made over night.
Will let you know tonight how i get on xStill TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

It'll let you know if your yeast is off, as if it doesn't froth then it's not happy!
I'm probably teaching my grandma to suck eggs but use warm water and don't forget the sugar. You may have to leave it longer if you use colder water.
I forgot one lot once I wandered off to another part of the house and when I got back it had nearly made it out over the side of the jug!!!0 -
arghhh i forgot the sugar can i add it after 5 mins???Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016
