Car lease - service lie?

Hi everyone, so this is a bit random but I need some advice about leasing a car or more specifically the 3yr lease I already have. If you have a car on lease & don't get the first service done (was due over 4 months ago) does this invalidate the warranty on the car? I was told this when o was at a dealership with my husband recently (whilst he was getting a new car on lease). I can't find anything in my paperwork which states this & now feel that it could've been the salesman telling me porkies, to get me to sign up for a new car/upgrade, which he made me feel as though I had to do, as the car was pretty dodgy now that the warranty didn't stand. Does anyone know if this is right?

The warranty for vehicles isusually linked to servicing within the period stated.

Its accepted policy that as long as its serviced at a VAT registered garage and OEM parts are used and carried out at intervals required then the warranty is valid.

There will be a certain leeway for servicing (30 days/1,000 miles) but you're well outside this now so yes, the warranty may be invalidated if you had to claim


On the other side as part of the lease agreement presumably you agreed to maintain/service the car in line with the manufacturers recommendations - this may leave you a fairly strong challenge (and potential financial impact) when you come to return the car.


This is of course assuming it's a true lease and not some other form of finance agreement

As mentioned above, it's not only the warranty you need to worry about, it's whether or not you've breached the terms of the leasing agreement - if you have, you can expect potential issues and cost when handing the car back, quite apart from quite probably being on the hook for the cost of any repairs - and if for example you've bought an economical diesel and are only using it for short runs, those repairs could be pretty stinging - and all for the cost of a service.
