HELP! Plumbing question for wall hung WC?

I've just had a new standard ordinary bathroom.

Now I'm helping a friend choose a suite. He wants a wall-hung WC and wall-hung basin!

The current WC and basin stand against an internal stud wall. There is a hollow cavity behind which houses the waste stacks for the flats.

I think a better layout would be achieved by hanging the replacements against another wall. That wall also has the advantage of being a load-bearing brick wall. Trouble is that this would put the WC further from the down stack.

The design would incorporate a (wall-hung or floor standing?) metal frame containing a concealed cistern and I've been looking at these on Ebay. They usually have a picture showing the WC waste pipe exiting straight out of the back.

I'm suggesting it goes out at the side and runs along the wall below the basin at floor level. Presumably the basin also needs a metal support frame? If so, the wc waste pipe would be hidden in that.

The pipe then has to go into a section of hollow wall, which houses the WC waste stack for the flats. My second question is- Is it permitted to have the waste pipe bend to the right where it exits the WC? If so, how long a pipe run is permitted before it reaches the downstack? The length I have in mind is 100cm and after that it needs one more bend. Would it all flush cleanly with no smells?!;)

  • Without looking it up I think you should be OK with what you propose to do, so long as there is sufficient "fall" on the pipe (needs to go and look up that figure too).
Wall hung basin will hang off something like this:

it shouldn't need a frame. Wall hung toilet pans need to take your weight, wash basins don't (usually, let's not get too far into what people do in the privacy of their bathrooms )

I haven't quite got my head round what you are trying to achieve, as the whole purpose of wall hung products is the clean lines and space below. Are you constructing a false wall to hide the pipework in?

    Yes Bob.

The metal box frame will be boxed in and tiled, leaving a clean, modern look.;)
  • OK , so if you make a decent enough frame you shouldn't need a metal frame for the washbasin. If you want to go for the frame for it OK but those things are expensive. Bet the one for the toilet pan is easily > £100.

  • You can buy them along with the pan as packages in places like plumbworld etc however afaik they usually package cheap frame and cisterns.

Have a look for gerberit frame and cistern for a good quality one.

Yes, I 'm looking on Ebay at Plumbworld and also at Bathaholic. Nice wall hung WCs. Found a good one with slow close lid for £75.

Didn't know there were quality issues with the frames and cisterns. I take it Gerberit is a German manufacturer then?;) Have found it for £139 with delivery from Germany.

I have come across another brand, called Grohe. Any good?

Frame & cistern prices vary from £139 to £259. Some include a WC in that price.

    Thanks for the advice.
  • £139 isnt bad for the cistern and frame (note you can get about three different height ones and a range of flush panels). I think heights are 80cm 98 cm and 110cm ish.

Funnily enough im fitting one in a couple of weeks hooked up with a nice laufen pan.

£75 is ok for the soft close lid, is it a quick remove one? thats nice for cleaning.

we have got a local dealer (bournemouth) who has masses of stock and you can check out almost everything available in bathrooms there, they are also very competative to the net prices.
