Leaking pipe, now wall mouldy!

Options
We discovered a pipe was leaking and had a plumber out to fix it.

Then the smell started, a really bad eggy type smell and we didn't know what on earth it was. Then a wall near the pipe (but not the wall the pipe was on), the paint started peeling and now it has mould patches all over it.

We haven't a clue what to do. It is the wall behind the kitchen. On the other side of the wall is the washing machine.

What do you do with a going mouldy wall??? Please help!

  • Given that the washing machine is the other side of the wall, I'd be checking behind it to make sure the pipework wasn't leaking. The smell would suggest the waste pipework.

We have checked and it doesn't look like it is leaking. Do you not think it could be anything to do with other pipe on other wall leaking?

Also what do you do with a mouldy wall?? Will it need to come down? Or will it dryout and fix itself?

First job is to find the leak and fix it.

Then clean the wall with bleach, ventilate well until wall appears dry. Paint with a paint containing mould-inhibitor (most kitchen/ bathroom paints do) and see how it looks.

We have already fixed the leak, 3 weeks ago, unless there is another leak.... inside the wall maybe...

But I will do the bleach thing thanks, just hoping it hasn't done the inside of the wall damage?
