Checking my credit score etc

Hi
When a loan company or similar performs a search on your financial history using a credit ref agy it will often impact your credit score.
Is this also the case if I were to sign up to say check my file to check everything is correct and up to date?
I would like to check my file before my mortgage provider has a look and would not want to cause another search to be listed against me.
