SORN fine after car was stolen

Hi, here is my query:
- My car broke down and was handed in to the mechanics at the start of Aug with deposit to start work
- tax ran out so SORNed car whilest at mechanics and in garage
- Mechanic messed me around and 6 weeks later still no car
- After trying to get back car and money with no luck finally declared stolen to police and given crime ref number
- Had to collect car from pound in Dec (4 months after given to mechanic) after dumped on road. Pound recognised police crime number and dropped charges and released car to me.
- Had to scrap car as had in meantime bought new second hand car as rely on it for work
- Have now been served with Single Justice Procedure Notice for driving vehicle while SORN on end of Oct and asked to plead guilty or not guilty and declare assets
Any advice on where I stand and which situation leaves me financially better off as do not want to plead not guilty and risk things not going in favour for me in court and being lumped with massive fine and court costs.
Big thanks

When was it reported stolen, before or after the end of October when it was seen being driven?0

Hi Johno100. I think before but am not sure as I've only got an email correspondance from the police stating it has now been logged which is dated early Nov. I have had no luck with trying to get the date of when it was reported based on my crime ref. number from the police.0
