Provident

Please don't judge me on having to get a loan with this company, but last christmas i did. Then last week I urgently needed some money, so the only way to do this was to take another loan out with them. My agent said no problem but I was £123 in arrears and this would have to paid of with the loan I got and I would get the remainder, didn't think nothing of it, as I know if you already had a loan with them and you take another one out, they like you to pay of the existing one with the loan.

Anyway, she took my book away and turned up a couple of days later with the loan, minus £123, I asked her where my book was and she said it was still in the office, and she will bring it with her on Friday.

Anyway, as my sister is a customer of hers and she goes to my sisters first, I asked my sister would she give her my payment as I was going out and could she ask her for my book back.

Well my sister has a very suspicious mind, and phoned the local office yesterday to question why I was in arrears, the office said I had missed payments, so my sister asked if my book was there, the man in the office said that my agent had the book and I should have got it back when I got the loan the other day. When the agent turned up, my sister started questioning her about the £123 arrears she said I was in, the agent said that sometimes I had missed 3 weeks payments - not true, I have never, ever missed any payments to them, and sometimes when she doesn't turn up one week, the next time she turns up, she always gets 2 weeks payment. And If I was in arrears, why was nothing ever said to me, why do I keep getting letters once a week offering me loans and vouchers etc? When my sister asked her where my book was, the agent said it was still in the office.

Now I have been told by provvy in the past that I am one of their best customers as I have never missed any payments, even the girl who took over when my agent was on maternity leave said that to me.

I am fuming about this, as I don't have my book to check, and I am still supposed to pay the loan of I took out last christmas, which I thought was already paid when I took the loan the other day.

My sister said that when she started questioning her, the agents face changed and she had a smirk on her face.

Sorry for the long post.

Hey nobody on here will judge you you did what you need to do at the time.
In regards to the Agent and your book I would contact the office and expain to them everything that has gone on. It really seem's fishy and I would want answer's.
Just one question did you get your book back every week or two weekly when you made your payment's and did you check that she had marked your payment as being made? silly question's I know but I haven't had the pleasure of provident although many of my friends have.
Anyway I wish you the best of luck and please let us know what happenend's

Please try your best to get out of these peoples clutches. When (and you will) get yourself out of debt contact a credit union and start saving with them. They give loans, their terms are upfront and honest. When I needed £500 in a hurry I rang them (rather than go to my bank who wanted me to borrow at least twice that).

I would actually suggest that you go into the local office and speak to the branch manager. If this happening to you, how many others is it happening to?

I would also look to using a credit union to get out of the clutches of provident!

I haven't posted regarding this for a while as nothing had happened, but this has still not been sorted out! I am still waiting for someone to come and collect off me the money I have been putting away, and the final straw came last week when my account was passed to their solicitors to start legal proceedings!

I found the email of the chairman of provident, and copied him into an email to customer services, well I received a letter today, on behalf of the chairman asking me to send in a photocopy of my book, and to say that they have instructed their solicitors to stop proceedings.

But today, I came home to a message on my phone from the manager of the local office to say that she had saw me out shopping this afternoon, aren't I allowed to shop for food??? That was it, nothing else was said, very strange message, so it looks like she is following me!

I have also paid by cheque a few times, but when I have done, the cheque does not get cashed for a couple of weeks, so therefore 2 cheques were getting cashed at the same time, making me go overdrawn, that's when I stopped paying by cheque.
  • i ask for compensation from the company too as they have broken data protection rules by discussing your finances and confidential information with your sister. Unless you gave express consent for your sister to be able to access your details they should not be discussing your details with her.
