Forklift Licence

Evening all,

Im looking round for a few jobs and alot are asking for FLT drivers (and its good money) however i dont have my FLT Licence.

I did a quick "Google" but couldnt find anything specific apart from another thread which someone has put if you are currently unemployed the jobcentre will put you through it??? just trying to find out how accurate this is or if anybody can give me an idea on exactly what i would need or where to go and how much if the job centre dont do this. I will ring them tommorow but thought id try here now and see if anybody knew.

Cheers guys

You can get up to £200 towards training from ILA if you're in Scotland.
Though most people get their FLT tickets from their work so just look for somewhere that'll train you up whilst you work for them. You may have to start off with general warehouse work first.

A smaller local company would let you have a shot on the FLT in spare time, will let you see if you're any good at it/actually like it before shelling out hundreds on training.

Make sure your license is appropriate to the kind of truck you intend to work on. There are 5 main types from memory.

    Counterbalance - the most common.
Reach - used in racked warehouses mainly.
Bendy - like a counterbalance crossed with a bendy bus. Articulates.
Side loader - often used in timber yards.
Man up reach - the cab rises with the forks. You also need abseil training for these. Normally found in high bay warehouses.

You can also get rough terrain counterbalance trucks designed for use in areas like scrap yards.
