Help with Gas Bill
Can someone confirm my thoughts here please.
I have not had my meter read for an age so I thought I better sort it out. So I got my daughter to photograph the meter reading and send it me.
It struck me after being alarmed at the bill I was estimating that my meter appears to to be metric but the bill seems to assuming its imperial

Are you sure they are estimating from the right meter?
1. They are using imperial measurements and your meter is metric
2. The readings are very different. Their estimate is 3292 and the actual reading is 05730.
On the back of your bill you will see 'Your meter number ' in the section labelled 'Your meter use' Make sure this is G4K7131 5851. If it is not they are using the wrong meter to estimate you bill.
Have you had your meter changed ?The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0 -
Yes a few years ago, hence the low reading of 5370, it started at zero.
You're right the meter number appears to be incorrect as well. Gotta love utility companies.
I have always thought our bills were a tad high, but an old central heating system and spoiled kids who don't understand the concept of a jumper when you're cold. I just assumed it to be correct.0 -
The reading is 05370. The first 0 is important as it tells them it is a 5 digit read and confirms they are estimating the wrong meter.
Best to ring them and sort it out.The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0 -
From what can be seen on your pictures, yes you are being billed for an imperial meter and you have a metric meter.
You need to take a picture of the yellow sticker on the gas meter as if this is correctly filled out, it will hold the old meter details and date of exchange.
Contact your supplier and explain the error to them, They will be happy to help out and enjoy the money back!0 -
If there is no exchange date tag on your meter, do you have access to past bills (online if paper ones have been destroyed) ?0
