Car insurance renewal - when to add 17 year old

Hi,
I need to renew my car insurance next week. My daughter turns 17 in a couple of months and I would want to add her to the insurance at that time.
My question is do I add her to the insurance at her 17th birthday and possibly incur an admin fee and unknown premium increase or can I add her at the renewal when she will still be 16 to know the impact on the premium at renewal and shop around?
Thanks.

You can't add her to your policy whilst she's only 16. You will need to add her once she turns 17.
When doing renewal quotes, do some with her as a named driver aged 17, and that should show you a very rough amount you'd pay when you add her on later.0 -

A quick follow up question if I may.
The cheapest policies for me only are then really expensive when I include a notional daughter. Also the cheaper policies including her are expensive when it is just me.
In this case I presume it would make sense to take out a policy in my name only and then cancel and take out a new policy when adding my daughter when she turns 17 (depending on the cancellation fees)?

Or just get her a learner policy? That way your no claims is not at risk.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
