Hi,

I am trying to claim back PPI from a loan for a car back in 2004. I know I paid £1700+ in PPI that I had no idea about but I feel with a questionnaire they have send me they are trying to get out of it as some of the questions are pretty random.

1)At the point of sale did I have any savings and what were they for?
2)Gross Salary when I took out the policy?
3)Would I have received pay if off sick and type of Benefit? This included Sick Pay, Redundancy and Death in Service?
4) Has my employment status changed since I took out the insurance? (It was 17 years ago so yes?) and then details of the change?

These seem like a killer question?

5) At point of sale did I have any other insurance policies that would cover my payments?

I had no conditions when taking out the loan for the car, It was never said to me that I had to have cover etc.

Please help!

Thanks

    They're not random.

They will help determine whether the policy was appropriate or not.
  • Ok bad wording on my part, but if I had no idea it was part of the loan then surely that the point of the claim not if it was appropriate?

Surely any company can deny PPI if you didn't have cover anyway?

It's a standard questionnaire, to cover all bases. If you feel you didn't knowing you were signing for it, then you still put that as your complaint reason.

They're basically checking to see if it was suitable - if you had no savings and limited / basic sick pay for example and were off for 6 months how would you pay the bills - if you could pay them then the PPI isn't as useful

Do note they can ask you to provide proof of any claims you make on the form

I'm surprised black horse are even entertaining this though, 2004 is pre-regulation and the dealer is liable, not the finance provider (unless the person who sold you the finance worked for black horse).

See what happens, you might get lucky

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

There is nothing wrong with having PPI. The product itself is not the issue. It is whether it was missold or inappropriate for you. Checking for overlap with other policies is a sensible thing that can really only work in your favour. It cant do any harm.
