Multiple insurance policies

My house is likely to be exchange in the next few weeks ago I should start looking into building, and contents insurance. We have decided to get life insurance, and still considering whether critical illness insurance is worth it.

Anyone recommend where I should start, any good insurers.... what I should take out. Is there any type of insurer that takes into account having multiple types of insurance and offers a discount.

There are menu plans which offer life cover, critical illness cover and income protection.

However, it may be cheaper/sensible to do separate cover with different providers as you often find the best provider for income protection isn't for critical illness cover.

You should get advice from an IFA or protection specialist. Commission is still the usual route on such advice, so unlikely to be a fee to pay unless you prefer that option.

It is funny that you say you will take out life insurance but wondering if critical illness is worth it...

There is roughly double the likelihood that you will make a claim on Critical illness over life insurance.

It costs more but that is because it is more likely to pay out.

I am personally a bigger fan of income protection, but I think at this stage that may muddy the waters. You probably are best speaking to a broker. Some offer discounts if you take out multiple policies and some will also then offer discounts on other products (buildings or car insurance for example) but in all honesty, I would concentrate on getting the best policies you can for a price you are happy with. Saving a few quid but finding out your are not covered for something is a false economy.
