My email was about £58,too but claimed to be for a man with a very odd name (eg Marvin Ergaman ). It was sent twice, claiming he would be paid if I didn't inform them via the inevitable link. (Press 'block').

I'm getting a lot for Viagra (even though each sender gets blocked); very inappropriate as I'm female.

The way to avoid being phished and to save your time is simple. If you get one of these emails, just delete it.

Don't take any action based upon the contents of the email, don't forward it to anyone including paypal (they must get millions of these sent to them anyway, and let's face it, criminal gangs that are behind this will just use a throwaway server) and don't click any links or open attachments.

If you are worried about activity on your paypal account, just open your web browser, go to paypal.com and login and check from there.

I have really high filters on my email account, so only people in my contact list make it into my inbox, everything else goes into the junk folder. I check my junk folder a couple of times a day to make sure that there isn't anything that I want to look at in it, but it's interesting that although I get proper emails from Paypal into my Inbox, the scam ones go into Junk.
