O/S Daily Friday 10 March 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, dry underfoot, but very cloudy and overcast.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting up and ready for work, DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was a joint of gammon, egg, roasted potato wedges, peas/veg - the gammon was probably one of the nicest joints I've ever had, it wasn't huge but there's only a very small bit left. Tonight I'm not sure what we will be eating but I'll organise that today when I do the food shopping.
Yesterday I wasn't very productive at all, I had to go into work for training, and that messes up the day really. I did get into town to visit the bank and building society first thing though. I got stuck in with the washing and got everything out on the line - it's not all completely dry but enough - so have quite a pile of ironing, I'll do that later. I did clean the bathrooms and shove the hoover round and now we've tackled several "hotspots" it's generally not as untidy so it doesn't look too bad most of the time. I did also take my sis's birthday card and prezzie to her so she has it for her birthday which is on Sunday.
Today's plans are visiting the SM first thing, home to unpack shopping and then do the ironing. Strip and remake beds - washing and line dry bed linen if possible. Really need to do some baking/cooking - this is a must - I haven't done any for weeks, I have sweet potatoes in the bottom of the fridge so I'll buy carrots today and make up a jug of roasted sweet potato and carrot soup, that'll be tomorrow and Monday's lunch possibly Tuesday's as well - depends if anyone else wants some. Also need to make some cake/pastry type desserts - so probably will make sponge cake/cupcakes, mince pies, oat biscuits or cookies I have loads of ingredients it just all sits in the cupboard. I know once I get going with it I'll be satisfied and think why didn't I do this before! It helps so much with the shopping bill to, having the different food to offer for snacks.
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. After a nice few days (albeit windy) we are back to murk this morning. After another sleepless night the weather reflects my mood.
Just enjoying a peaceful coffee or two before the DGDs descend and start causing chaos. Roll on 8.15 when they are shoved into the car for the school run, ready or not! Then a boring day of tidying up, cleaning, catching up on washing etc will follow.
Congrats on the new arrival CSARINA! Have you recovered yet?!
Before the subject of swimming caps is put to bed! I made a point of scrutinising every single head in all the different classes and clubs last night and not one swimming cap to be seen on any of them! Seems it wouldn't do your street cred any good if you were seen in one these days!
Better put some thought to what we are eating today and get something out of the freezer to defrost.
Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want one. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning (((((((((( hugs )))))))))) if you need one.
I am just about recovered from yesterday, a tough day, DGD had a rough time of it, everyone was exhausted including the baby.
Awake early, today, I gave a feeling, is going to be another tough day, OH is due at the dentist at 11 am to get the root of the tooth that broke off - out. I am not looking forward to it. I plan a quick trip to Wilkinson whilst he is in the dentist, I will then walk round from the car park and collect him. I was going to see my quilting friend, this afternoon, have put it off to tomorrow.
No idea what the weather is like, have not opened the curtains, OH is still snoring away.
Yesterday's meat and spud pie went down well. The beetle drive was fun, lots of laughs, we came home just after 8.30, so not a late night.
Supper tonight, fish, mash and peas.
Baby was delivered by C section, his heart rate dipped and they had to get him out in a hurry. There is a picture of him on my blog for anyone who wants to coo over a new baby. There is also a picture of my daughter fast asleep in the chair, I gather she was with DGD from Tuesday onwards, she was glad to get home to bed last night.0 -
Morning All
Looks a bit murky out there, just beginning to rain. Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, sunshine all day.
I'm on a roll, lots of little jobs have been done - cards for various celebrations written and gifts wrapped, sold an old oak sideboard on gumtree, it had been lurking in the rather horrid conservatory since before christmas and a couple of parcels posted.
I have the dentist after work for the fitting of my new crown then on to have my hair cut, I missed my appt last week, first time ever but didn't write it down. I must be getting old!
Have a good first night on your boat HH.
Hope all's well with mum and baby csarina.
Are your hens enjoying their freedom tru?
Right, off for a shower and another exciting day at school. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Gloomy here too but will hopefully brighten up later, yesterday afternoon turned into beautiful afternoon with people walking round in t- shirts and some of the builders at work had shorts on !
Off to work again today I cant wait till Mon / Tues for my days off. I must wash some work t-shirts tonight so that I have enough for the weekend.
Going to do a flambe for dinner with some left over potatoes from last night and some salad.
Ive got to stop on the way home and get some money out for logs and pick up a parcel.
Csarina Congratulations !
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Just managed to squeeze a splinter out of a finger on my right hand...not easy to do I can assure you but the painful little fleck of whatever it was is now gone.
Managed a reasonable sleep last night but woken by this nasty chesty cough which I still have...I'm wondering if it will ever go on it's own. I'm not sure if it is a chest infection which needs antibiotics (which I avoid taking like the plague), but I've had it for weeks now...maybe give it one more week then if no better will contemplate a trip to the doctors.
Nothing else of interest to report other than I need another cup of tea. Have a good day all. Take care

Morning everyone.
Must be a day for the dentist, I've got an appointment this morning too. Where I live there is only one dentist and a ten month waiting time to join the list so it's easier to come here for treatment. Anyway, that at 11.15 and it's done.
DMs birthday was lovely. She has a great selection of cards and a huge amount of flowers. One friend sent an enormous bouquet so her living and rooms are full to burst. The heady scent of hyacinths fills the place. Said friend came for coffee, cake, chat and crosswords. The three boys all phoned or emailed which made her happy.
Had a mini disaster when I sprayed some moisturising oil onto my hair and it scattered onto my newish TShirt. I'm hoping that a boil wash will bring it out!
On a sadder note my sister in law (in Oz) emailed to say her elderly father has been diagnosed with myeloid leukaemia with a very short prognosis. Life is just an adventure and his travels here are almost over.
Right, I'll get sorted, have breakfast and scrub my teeth!
Happy Friday to all.0 -

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]camelot The girls are having a great time
I usually let them out as soon as it starts to get light but they've been very vocal since regaining their freedom so I don't open their door til 7.30am, I don't want complaints from the neighbours, lol. They've starting laying again, we're getting six eggs a day at the moment. Scampi has learned a new thing – a very firm “shut the door”. He's taken offence to the girls being able to come right up the fence, lol. I went back to doing what I did when we first had him and tried to get him to leave them alone but it wasn't working. He pretends to be deaf and runs backwards and forwards along the fence, yelling at them if they come too close. The other day I took a loud, exaggerated, sharp intake of breath and said “I'll shut the door!” then I closed it. He ran straight to the door to be let back in. Didn't take him long to learn, and I've shortened it to just “door” - I prefer one word commands
He only yelled once yesterday and as soon as I said it, he stopped

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]I painted and did quite well
I couldn't move the larger sofa so waited for one of the others to come home to help me, by then it was starting to get dark and I couldn't see what I was doing properly in artificial light. I didn't want to make a mistake with the last bit so I'll be doing that this morning. By the way, when you need to take a break between painting sessions and need to stop the paint drying on the brush, dog poo bags are the perfect solution

[FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]Mr tru is off work today, he's going to lift the radiators off the wall to paint behind them. Once that's done, I can get on with the top coat on the skirting and also do the window sills. He wants to make a start in the garden later, I'm thinking NO

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's forecast to be a lovely day here. It's my daughter's 17th birthday and she has been downstairs and opened her presents and cards. She is going to school today and I expect her friends will spoil her too. It is also Max's birthday today too, he is 2 and has grown from a tiny little puppy to a great big labrador. DD17 doesn't mind sharing her special day
.
Hubby has today off work so I will have some company. He's already on his first rant of the day though so I may go back to bed once the girls are in school :rotfl::rotfl:.
DD17 would like a chinese takeaway for tea so I don't have to cook. I will try to make a good choice, maybe beef in black bean sauce, yum. I am planning to batch cook several meals on Monday once eveyone has left the house and have placed an order with Tesco for all the ingredients to come on Monday morning. My fridge is full of salad stuff but we are going to have chicken salad on Sunday instead of a roast.
Congrats to csarina on the arrival of the baby. Hope you will all soon recover xx
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Good morning all x
Well didn't stop yesterday. Did shopping . Did 5 loads of washing and got it all dry. Deep cleaned the bathroom. Cleaned the kitchen and dusted and hoovered the rest of the house. Cleaned the budgies out and cooked a stew for dinner. No wonder I'm aching this morning lol. Anyways today I have to strip 2 beds and wash those then remake. Ironing and start the freezer prep of the meals I brought yesterday. Then if time I want to make a choc cake .
Dinner tonight will be roast chicken and the trimmings .
DD2 still very sore and the bruising is coming out well now. She is a little space monkey with the pain killers she is taking but considering the crash could of been a lot worse as the car is written off she is a very lucky girl.
Anyhoo better get on.
Hugs to all in need xxBright Blessings xx0 -
Morning all, my day off so I have cleaned in the bathroom, done two lots of washing and I have bread in the bread machine. I'm never going to ask anyone else to do it again, the fear of boring breadmaking is likely to lead to some very strange items. Next it will be polenta and custard rolls or Rye bread with added hummus and a teabag decoration.
Dentist and hygienist yesterday, my teeth are ok, apparently I am an ace tooth cleaner but I still need to book in for this crown, am waiting again as I have recurrent sinus problems and want to feel that's reasonably settled before I do.
Dinner tonight will be jerk chicken with rice and peas (red beans) and I'd quite like some coleslaw but I don't have any white cabbage so no coleslaw. In fact I don't think there is any cabbage at all, so I can't even make experimental slaw.
Hope everyone has a good day, Hester I think your life is going to be lots more exciting than mine, if you visit Gas St Basin I can come and admire your floaty home. Deleted_User, congratulations again! I'd like some hens like tru but that's a distant dream, and we are plagued by urban foxes. I like tge idea of foxes but not their vilely stinky poo. My dogs used to love rolling in it, blee.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0
