Sorry if this turns into a long one.
Dad is currently in hospital following a number of falls and the decision has been made by my mum that she can no longer care for him safely at home.
He has terminal cancer and had been having carers visit twice a day under CHC. An amendment has been made and we are just awaiting everything to be put in place.
I have two questions:
Does he lose all his pension under CHC or will mum still receive it?
We are currently looking into pension credit - is mum now classed as a single person or is she still a couple (I guess this may also depend on the answer to the first question). I notice there is also savings credit - is this linked to the pension credit or are they separate (and yes I have looked but couldn't find the answer - what level savings do they have to have).
Thank you

CHC is NHS funded, so no he will not lose any of his pension.
Does your father currently receive PC?0 -
no, they don't receive pension credit at the moment. Not really looked into it until now.0

As a couple they could claim PC if their income is below £237.55 per week, and for a single person it is £155.60.
It is unlikely that your mother can claim the single person's allowance while she is receiving her husband's pension as the income level would be to high, so this may have to wait until she is unfortunately left alone. If as a widow she receives less than £155.60 then she will be able to claim PC up to that amount, although if she has savings over £10,000 the PC top up will be reduced by £1pw for every £500 over the £10,000 limit.0 -
Thank you Keep pedalling, you've clarified it for me.0

IIRC - it was over 5 years ago - when my Dad went into a care home (self-funded) we had the option for Mum to receive part of his (I think) occupational pension.
We rejected that as it would have taken Mum over the weekly income threshold for guaranteed pension credit.
They had been in receipt of joint pension credit before he went into a home.
So we did a separate claim for pension credit for both Mum & Dad which was granted. The lady from DWP might have referred to it as 'disassociation'.
So I think your Mum would be classed as a single person.
Re eligibility:
put your Mum's details into this benefit checker, you'll need to know how much savings & what income she has:

Here's a specific pension credit checker:
