Dents made by engineer

I had my washing machine fixed by a Hoover engineer however, after they had fixed my washing machine I noticed that there are several dents left in my machine from the engineer. I have have made a complaint and telephoned them in which they have responded that cosmetic work is not covered in my plan. I don't feel this has been dealt with fairly as surely they can't damage my washing machine in order to make the it work? What are my rights and where do I go next as I feel I should be compensated some way or another?

    Where are the dents?
  • At the bottom of the washing machine and they are from the inside out.

Does the washing machine work now? And are you planning to enter it into a beauty contest?

If the metal chassis has been dented enough to be noticeable then there is a good chance that the protective coating (this could be paint or possibly zinc plating) on the inside of the machine has also been damaged.
This could lead to it rusting, and if it rusts from the inside, it could get quite bad before it becomes visible.

There is also a possibility that if the engineer was heavy handed enough to cause physical damage to the casing of the machine, there may be other damage that may not become apparent until a later time.

I wonder if you'd be that way if your car was dented while being serviced.

OP, I'd phone again and ask to speak to someone higher ranking. If that doesn't work try writing to their head office.
