Consultation period rules

I work for a small firm along with four others. The directors are volunteers and are unpaid. We were told in a staff meeting that due to financial conditions we were in a 3 week consultation period no mention was made of redundancy, I asked specifically if this was what was meant? I was told that no it was looking at everything in the company and how we could make savings.
I made along with others made some recommendations including saving the company approx.. £1400 on the utilities by swapping suppliers and other suggestions to increase the income.
Fast forward to three weeks time we had another meeting but individually this time, which we just went over what we had already suggested. We were told that there would be a meeting in a weeks time, with all the staff and then individually when we would be given a letter telling us how things would affect us.
The following week we had the meeting, again all together which once again went over everybody’s suggestions, this time to be told that the directors were having a meeting in 12 days time after which we would then get letters.
At no time have we had anything in writing saying we were in consultation, is what they have done legal?

Sounds OK to me and is a lot more than a lot of companies would do.
what status is this company, who are the owners?
bit unusual for unpaid senior staff except in charities.0 -
It is a car club so owned by the members but it is a Ltd business, I just thought things like this had to be confirmed in writing to be legal, maybe I am expecting too much when compared to my previous employers in the past.0

Is it a club for the owners of a specific make or make and model? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

Yes it is, I don't want to name it for obvious reasons.0

there should be accounts and shareholder meetings.
when working for this kind of setup often a good idea to own one share.
No requirement to put in writing you are discussing things with your employees.
no statutory consultation period for redundancies with only 5 people.
things for you to think about(you don't have to share)
How bad are the finances?
Been any shareholder meetings?
How is the income generated?
Are they just not generating enough or is something funny going on.
As an insider/worker you should have a fairly good idea whats been going on.0
