What type of boiler do I need?

Hi all,
Another question that I cant seem to find the answer to without spending loads of money!
I live in a 3 bedroomed terrace property and I need to replace my old boiler as its on its last legs. However I dont know what type, power or spec I require before I find the cheapest on the market.
I have a "regular" boiler and would prefer to replace with a regular boiler. It also heats my water. I need it to be cheap, and may even consider a second hand (2-3 years old max) boiler.
Advice please anyone!!
Thanks so much in advance!
Andy

Sorry?!
I need to know what type of boiler I need, what size etc, I could easily go on ebay and buy a boiler, but god know whether it would be the right size, spec etc.
As per usual the trade sites make it as difficult as possible for jo bloggs in the street to understand what the hell the boiler does and what size house etc it is for! No, instead they want you to spend money on getting one of their "advisors" round.
I could talk to the hilt on this subject. ant over. Any constructive replies welcome now.0 -
Cheap may be cheap now, but in the long run it may be expensive.
Find a plumber dealing in gas boilers (CORGI) and preferably one who has been recommended and get them to give you a quote. Get a couple plus British Gas (just for the laugh). Valiant and WorcesterBosch are supposed to be the best. Expect to pay £2-2.5K to have it fitted!
Not sure second hand is legal these days!Snootchie Bootchies!0 -

You cannot do any of what you suggest because it is all illegal - is that clear enough?
By the way, if you quote you house dimensions, type (semi etc), wall construction type (cavity etc), amount of roof insulation, window types (double glazed etc), number of stories and area of the country then I can tell you what size boiler you need and it won't cost you a bean. This should give you a little less to rant about.0 -

To find what size boiler you will need to buy go to www.diy.com B&Qs website. They have a BTUs calculator which will help you to work it out.
Once you know what size you need go to or ring a local plumbers merchants to see what boilers they would recommend. They should be able to recommend a good local CORGI Registered fitter who could fit it for you. It would be better if you found the CORGI man and let him supply and fit the boiler. He would also be able to confirm the correct size of boiler for your size and type of house.
You really should consider a condensing boiler, they are the newest types and are the most efficient, and they will heat your water on demand. I got a cracking one from Halstead (they are in Essex) supplied and fitted for £1150 (December 2006) I was told it was a straightforward replacement.
Don't buy second hand.0
