safety recall - courtesy car?

I've received a safety recall on a car
The letter says it is free of charge but is the dealer also obliged to provide a free courtesy car or car pick-up service?

No. If its a big recall then they may need hundreds of courtesy cars which wont happen.

Always worth asking though. A lot maybe down to your relationship with the dealer. Repeat customer? Always get the work done at the same dealership?

Not obliged no, but if you give them plenty of notice most main dealers will provide a courtesy vehicle. If not they'll probably have a drop-off service.
