Clearing cupboards...and porridge!

Since my son left home I have been clearing up all the `extras` in the house and worked on the kitchen this week. All the food cupboards now cleaned and sorted. Food I don`t eat no longer has shelf space- ( my son had oodles of pasta!)
I realized that I had two Tupperware containers of porridge oats- the cheapo one for flapjacks and the preferred Scotts. Today I blind tested the cheapo one and would struggle to tell the difference particularly as I add fruit to it.
Another lesson learnt!

I think if you blind tested an awful lot of own brand or cheapie products you would be hard pressed to tell which was which.Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0

Buying premium brands is a racket. We have been using Waitrose Essentials for ages and I would defy anybody to be able to tell the difference between these and branded products on about 99% of the Essentials range. Other supermarket brands are probably similar.0

Agreed. And as most of us also know, if you have fussy family members, decant the value brand into a Tupperware box and they will never know the difference.
Then a few months down the line, you can triumphantly reveal the truth and openly have the packets on show.
Hands up who hasn't done this on more than one occasion!!!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

The one exception I found is Sainsbury's Coco pops which were not an acceptable swap for Kellogg's. I actually took them back for a refund.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Morrisons own brand ketchup wouldn't make my basket again. Too runny. Happily buy Tesco basic though. OH was brought up with Heinz and now eats the own brand sauce.Make £2025 in 2025

Mr LW used to be terrible when I first moved in with him; but back then I was able to visit the SM on my own, so he had what I decided to purchase; and I quickly got him pretty much converted.;)
Nowadays he has to accompany me to the SM (to propel my wheelchair) and if he makes a move towards branded stuff, I just turn in the chair, give him a withering look and say "I'm not made of money y'know!" I rarely have to do this, thankfully. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Yep, I've switched from Heinz to Lidl ketchup, Kellogg's cereals to Aldi and Walkers crisps to Aldi. Granted some own brands are not great (like Morrisons ketchup - far too vinegary or baked beans that are like bullets) but overall I've swapped loads of stuff I never would have considered a few years ago.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
