Back when the price of wholesale oil and gas plummeted, it took the gas companies forever to reduce their prices. Now that the prices have started to rise, it hasn't taken them too long to hike their prices.

Doesn't it work to pre-load your meter before the hike? Because its not monetary value on the meter but units purchased
