Some advice please (car insurance)

Someone drove into the back of me the other day. I have taken my vehicle in for an idea of repair costs and received an estimate for just short of £700.

The person who went into the back of me has said that they will pay it and doesn't want to go through insurance. They actually called round at my house today to explain that, although he was driving, it was on her insurance and they've had a couple of incidents already that resulted in it being difficult for them to get insurance.

I am concerned that the costs could increase if, for example, they were to find additional damage when repairing what they can see. They seem to say they'll pay whatever it costs, but I'm not sure whether I should be accepting their payment (they offered me cash there and then just now but I declined, saying that I'd get another estimate and seek advice), or reporting it to my insurance company.

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

Depends how accurate your estimate is. If your sure there is no further damage and they pay up front. Then its upto you.

Your supposed to inform your insurer of incidents even if you dont want to claim. Your premium may increase due to that declaration though.

If you inform yours you should let them know so they can inform theirs.

Do they know the estimate was £700?

Thank you. Yes, they know the estimate and they're aware that it could be more.

If you went through the third party insurance directly, it's likely you'd get a hire car from them as well whilst your own is being repaired.
I wonder if they would be willing to pay for that as well.

I got the impression they would be prepared to do that also, although it's not something that would be crucial to me.
