Telephone number when applying for Credit report

Options
Do you have to enter a telephone number when applying for your credit report?

I do not want my number to be publicly accessible to creditors as this will mean they start calling again, but I would like to have an updated report so I can see what is actually on my file.

Put in a bogus phone number. Most organisations try to harvest your phone number for no good reason. Why would the likes of a CRA need it?

There is no guarantee on that one. I suspect they'll "share it" with lots of organisations.
  • Do not give them your number! Do not use their form. Send a letter with a postal order. They will add anything you tell them to your file even if you tell them not to. That includes a scan of your signature from the letter if you sign it and your bank account details if you pay by cheque or card.

I use my home phone number which while active technically has been broken for years so there's nothing plugged in :D it will ring endlessly but they'll not get an answer :D

Better yet, register your own premium rate number and give them that. If anyone does call you, you will be making money out of them. Like this guy did:

That was in 2013. I believe he is now on the way to making another £4K from it since then.
