Window fitter not certass registered

Hi all,

Just looking for a little advice. We are in the process of renovating our first home. We needed all the windows replaced so took to the competent persons register and found a fitter we liked.

On inspecting his website it clearly states he's certass registered. So maybe a touch naive in not asking him to verify this. But he carried out the work and we are very happy with the windows and door. But nearing completion he announced that he is no longer certass registered.

So just looking to find out where we stand with this given his website states he is registered.

Thanks for any response
Tim

Forget what is on his website and protect your interests as a priority. Withold payment, apply for Buildings Regulations and get a thorough inspection of the work. Meanwhile take photos of what is being done.

Pay when work is satisfactory but deduct the Buildings Regulations fee. Also consider were you due to get an insurance backed warranty. If so, where do you stand on this?
  • Take a screen shot of his website dont know what Certass do but if he was dispaying the Fensa logo they would sue him this might give you some more leverage . You will have to go through building control with local authority

We have taken photos at various stages of the windows going in, and I won't be paying until I'm happy with the entire job.

If I remember correctly being certass registered means you're able to self certify, so no need to get building control involved.
  • If he is no longer Certass registered then you need building control
